Port water injection (PWI) is considered one of the most promising technologies to actively control increased knock tendency modern gasoline direct (GDI) engines, which are rapidly evolving with adoption high compression ratios and brake mean effective pressure levels in effort improve their thermal efficiency. For PWI technology, appropriately matching spray evolution intake system design along obtaining a atomization quality, crucial tasks for promoting evaporation so as effectively cool down air charge moderate consumption lubricant dilution drawbacks. In present paper, detailed experimental analysis low-pressure presented, covering lack data on automotive systems. Phase doppler anemometry fast-shutter imaging allowed us investigate influence exerted by level temperature drop size global shape, complete database be used optimization The obtained results evidence how significant benefits terms quality can adopting compliant standard low technologies.
